Sevenoaks

Executive Summary

This large family home was built in the heart of a lush nursery in Sevenoaks. The client, an architect, wanted to bring as much of the outdoor environment into the building as possible. The proposed design featured gable walls with floor to ceiling glazing, and large roof lights to take in the beautiful scenery that the house is fortuitously surrounded by. To compliment the ethereal surroundings, a spa would be created at basement level, replete with swimming pool and steam room.

Challenges

How would the two-storey glazed facade be supported? How would the swimming pool and cantilevered balconies be constructed? Would the attic area have enough space for three bedrooms.

How Thermohouse Helped

Beginning with the raft, Thermohouse built the entire structure up to roof level. A lower basement level was constructed to encompass the swimming pool and spa areas all built with ThermoWall ICF blocks. The balconies were constructed with our insulated flooring panels reinforced with steel and concrete. The double height glazing was supported by hidden steel reinforcement within the ThermoWall core. This allowed the ThermoRoof panels were utilised to create an open and spacious attic area. The panels were supported by steel beams at the ridge and hips. With the removal of traditional bulky timber trusses, this area could easily accommodate 2 bedrooms and a master suite with adjoining dressing room and his & her bathrooms.
